Mid-Bedfordshire Local Plan - the Final Phase

6.28.36pm GMT Tue 18th Mar 2003

Mid Bedfordshire housing

Neil Cliff is resisting plans to increase development at Henlow.

Consideration of the Inspectors report on the Plan (which has taken 10 years to complete) is now in its final phase.

For HENLOW, he suggests building another 35 houses to the east of The Dairy site now under construction and developing the County Council Highways site at Stockbridge Road.

Neil Cliff is resisting these suggestions because the first would leave no open space in the village and create a large housing block of over 110 houses, and the second would narrow the gap between Henlow and Clifton.

For LANGFORD, the only suggestion is to develop land at Garfield Farm for 35 houses.

The good news about all this is that apart from small infills, Henlow & Langford should not have any more large housing development for some time. Most of Deputy Prime Minister Prescott's housing requirements should be met in the West of the district, in Luton and Dunstable, and Milton Keynes.
